How Will The Economy Impact Your Business? However You Let It…
“How will the economy impact my business?”
“Is my business going to go under because of the downturn of the economy?”
“What’s going to happen to the United States, are we going to go under?”
That’s what I seem to be hearing every single day of my life anymore, and it’s starting to really get me fired up. I decided to write this post so hopefully I could knock some sense into people around the country!
Anyway, yesterday I was reading a post on the Warriors Forum about the economy which copywriting Ray Edwards (one of my favorite copywriters) started.
In just a few days this post got absolutely huge in size, and people had their own opinions ranging from the United States being able to come back from this and be absolutely fine, to the total collapse of the U.S. economy and us needing to learn how to garden to feed ourselves.
So obviously, it’s a heated topic.
So…I figured I’d let you know my opinion since I haven’t yet. I normally try to stay away from sharing my opinion of politics and economics, but this time I think it’s necessary for people to wake up.
My Response To The “How Will The Economy Impact My Business” Question
It’s simple really, if you don’t want the economy to impact your business, stop worrying about the economy!
Listen…worrying, talking about, and stressing over the economy will do NOTHING to help you get out of the situation.
The only way you can let the economy impact your business is, well, by letting it do so.
There are 2 kinds of people that emerge in times like these:
1) The people who whine and complain about how the economy is going to ruin their business, and then complain even more when it happens.
2) The successful business owners who accept that the economy sucks and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
Don’t just sit back and let the economy impact your business to the point where it makes you fail.
Instead, take a few minutes to brainstorm everyday on how you can improve your bottom line. Maybe think of a cheaper way to get more clients, maybe think of how you can improve your PPC ads to lower your cost-per-click, maybe launch a new product to boost revenues.
Whatever you do, stop complaining and worrying about the economy’s impact on your business.
As business owners, like Ray says in that forum post, WE are the people who are looked upon to fix it. Small business makes up the majority of our economy, and we literally have the power to boost it up and help everyone else out.
So my stance on it is this…
I’m going to do everything in my power to increase the revenues for my business. If that does happen, great. I’ve made more money for myself, plus stimulated the economy just a tiny little bit (and everything helps).
If the worst case scenario happens and our entire U.S. economy collapses from underneath our feet and we go back to a bartering system, well then so-be-it. Although I pray to God that doesn’t happen, there’s always the possibility that it might.
You see, most people get stressed over things they can’t control. We can’t individually control the economy, so what’s the point of worrying about it? Do what you can to help and let the government take care of the rest.
I won’t even get started on what I think about them - that’s a different story.
So…how will the economy impact your business?
You’re the only one that can make that decision.
Ok, I’m done with my rant…now drop some comments and express your thoughts.

Is Direct Mail Dying?
With the Internet exploding in unbelievable proportions, many people are starting to think that direct mail is slowly dying away - and Internet sales letters, autoresponders, article-writting, etc. is the way to go for copywriters.
But are they basing that on fact, or opinion?
Let me be honest…
Up until this morning, I believed that although direct mail wasn’t exactly “dying” - I thought it was slowing down big time.
After all, in most cases the Internet gets you results faster, is easier and cheaper to test, and has bigger profit margins than direct mail.
But according to an article I read this morning - “Non-catalog direct mail advertising is projected to grow by more than 44% this year compared to 2007, according to findings in a new research report entitled Direct Mail Best Practices, Benchmarks and Strategies.”
Take a look at that again….44%!!
Here’s a link to the article - http://directmag.com/news/direct-mail081208/
Non-catalog direct mail (postcards, flyers, sales letters, etc.) are STILL a great way for copywriters to gain incredible prospects.
And, they can make you more money over the long-term than the Internet can (in most cases).
But I still don’t think you should only go after tradtional direct-mail companies. That should only be part of your marketing plan.
Why not mix it up a little with a variety of direct-mail and online companies?
You can explain to the direct-mail companies why being online is so important, and you can explain to the Internet companies why sending direct-mail is so important!
Such an easy way to increase the size of your business by utilizing current clients…

Excuses, Excuses, Excuses
If there was one problem I could pick out of any “average” person that would make them be more successful, I would take out the fact that they don’t take enough action.
The problem is that our society today expects us to have excuses for everything.
- “I didn’t send out those letters because I want to get my letter ‘just perfect’”.
- “I never called them back because I wasn’t exactly sure what to say”.
- “I didn’t start saving 10% of my income because I had too many bills”.
All of these are simply excuses you give yourself to try and make your life easier.
But guess what the #1 reason is for people being unsuccessful?
Lack of action!
Just think if you actually DID everything you wanted to do. Whether that’s study more, send out more letters, call more prospects back, or whatever it is.
This is the problem with the movie “The Secret”. Although the law of attraction is a very powerful thing, it won’t get activated without action. That’s the key that opens the door.
So, right now, make a list of 10 things you make excuses for. If you make excuses for eating bad, write them down. If you make excuses for why your business isn’t thriving, write that down.
Whatever your goals are, try to think of excuses you’re creating that makes you not do the actions necessary to complete your goals in their entirety.
You can even make a list by commenting on this post. That way you’ll be held accountable and you’ll be much more likely to do them!
Hopefully this post inspired you a bit and made you take action today.
Face your fears, do what you don’t want to do, and do it with a smile on your face.
To the life you’ve always dreamed,
Jeremy
